I loved Evergreen even more than the first book in the series, Everblue!

The story line was more intense in this book, with a bit more action and conflict. There were some unexpected surprises along the way, taking the story in directions that I hadn't anticipated. We learn a lot more about the mer culture that the author has created and I love the uniqueness of that.

One of the things I loved most about these characters is that they act, for the most part, true to age. There new characters in Evergreen, too, and they fell on both sides of the good vs. bad scale. The bad guys are just as interesting as the good and elicit just as much passion from the reader, even if it is frustration and annoyance!

Things to love about Evergreen...

--The more intense plot. This book had more bit to it, more conflict, more action.
--The emotions. There was a lot more depth to the characters and their feelings and that really brings a reader in.

My recommendation This series is proving to be an engrossing and fun read. If you like mermaid fiction, give this series a try!
Ash finally received some answers at the end of book one, Everblue, when Fin came clean about the background of his family and their treasured secret. She learned that she wasn't going crazy without reason, it was just a side effect of Fin bringing her back to life using mouth-to-mouth. Granted it wasn't an unwelcome side effect in her mind, but it was one that would life a lifetime, however short or long that life was. In Natatoria, a kiss (or in this case any touching of the lips) was life binding and sealed the two individuals together and they became known as "promised", something that is looked at in the equivalence of marriage in the human world, only a lot stronger and literally something that becomes a part of their very being. For Ash and Fin, all they want is to be together and somehow make their happily ever after work out. However, neither one of them is quiet ready to take the plunge and completely say goodbye to their friends, family, and life as they've known it. Time isn't on their side, and though neither is quite ready to make the decision they might not have a choice, or that choice may very soon be taken from them.
For Fin, he would give anything for Ash, but he slowly learns that if he does give everything for her, he could lose everything they have, including their promise. But it is something that he is willing to consider, so long as he can get back to Natatoria and release his sister Tatiana from the Prince's clutches and defend her honor for having her promise and first kiss stolen. His twin was one of his best friends and he is a man of honor, though he doesn't know how he's going to stretch it anymore. The duty of protecting his family, avenging his sister, staying true to his promised Ash, and managing to not be caught or found out by humans himself is taking a much bigger toll than he ever imagined he'd live through. If only there was more time before the corrupt and devilish monarchy of Natatoria came looking for them and trying to end any chance at happiness for any of them, but he knows that time is limited and with each passing hour, it only gets worse.
Read on to find out what kind of adventures, treachery, greed, and manipulation continue in the word of Natatoria with the magical singing, beautiful treasures, binding kiss, and deep-seated animosity from years of jealousy. A good and quick read for young adults, typically female, and those that like fantasy.
